Magma Geopark in southern Norway offers many attractive places, and from them, we chose a formation that we called “an upside-down heart” for our half-day trip – its official name is Brufjellhålene. And we also went up to the hill under which the cave formation is located and after which it is named: Brufjell. The Norwegian Scenic Route Jæren runs from Bore to Flekkefjord and is part of roads No. 507 and 44. It is fundamentally different from other scenic routes in Norway. It leads along the southern coast of the North Sea, and the scenery that can be seen at Jaeren is nothing like the typical Norwegian mountain roads or roads around the fjords. The most famous cliff in Norway is called Preikestolen (also known as Pulpit Rock). It rises at a height of 604 m above the Lysefjord. It is an icon among tourist destinations, especially for foreign visitors. The hike to Preikestolen is moderately difficult, which means approx. 8 km there and back, an elevation of about 600 m. Hardanger Scenic Route winds around the beautiful Hardanger Fjord. It goes on the road No. 79 along the northern shores of the fjord from the town of Granvin to the town of Tørvikbygd, there it is necessary to jump over to the southern shores of the fjord to Jondal using a ferry, and from there on the road no. 550, then using the second ferry Utne – Kinsarvik, ending on road no. 13 going south to the Låtefossen waterfalls, where the Hardanger scenic route ends. The Hardangervidda scenic route begins in the tourist town of Haugastøl – by the way, the starting point for the well-known and very popular Rallarvegen cycle tour in Hallinsgkarvet National Park. More…


The Rallarvegen cycle route officially runs from Haugastøl through Finse, Hallingskeid, Myrdal, and down to the town of Flåm. It is also possible to complete the route oppositely, as we did. Trail details including an option to download it as gpx file are here:


Geiranger Trollstigen is probably the most famous scenic route in Norway. Its length is 104 km, the road overcomes an elevation of more than 1,000 m, and it is necessary to use one ferry from Eidsdal to Linge. More details and photos here:


Besseggen Ridge is one of the most popular hiking trails in Norway. The hikers usually start it by taking the boat from Gjendesheim to Memurubu along the Gjende fjord. And Memurubu is then a real start of access to Besseggen Ridge. Trail map including an option to download its gpx file here:


Briksdalsbreen glacier is the northwest best known and the most accessible arm of the Jostedalsbreen glacier which is the largest glacier not only in Norway but in continental Europe. It is situated at the end of the beautiful 25 km-long Oldedalen valley, and accessible by hiking a circle of about 5 km altogether. Trail map including an option to download gpx file here:


Sognefjellshytta is the highest point on the Sognefjellet Scenic Route offering a large parking lot and a short panoramic hiking trail including beautiful views of the peaks of Jotunheimen National Park.


The Scenic Route Sognefjellet is the highest mountain pass in Northern Europe. It climbs through the valleys from 0 to 1.434 m above sea level. Its length is 108 km and travels from Lom to Gaupne, and it is a part of the route No.55. An interactive map and an option to download gpx file here:


Valdresflye Scenic Route is a part of the road No.51. Altogether it is about 49 km long. An interactive map of Valdresflye Scenic Route including an option to download gpx file here:


Gaularfjellet Scenic Route is one of eighteen Norwegian official scenic routes. Well, it is a hidden gem among them. Its total official length is 114 km, and it overcomes a height from 0 to 784 m above sea level. After taking the ferry Rostock – Gedser we overnighted in Køge, Denmark, in a quiet place and the next day we drove to Røsholmstranda where we stayed in a beautiful place near the beach Røsholmstranda.
