Briksdalsbreen Hike

Briksdalsbreen Glacier Hike

Briksdalsbreen glacier is the northwest best known and the most accessible arm of the Jostedalsbreen glacier, which is the largest glacier not only in Norway but in continental Europe. It has 28 named glacier arms and Briksdalsbreen is one of them.

It is situated at the end of the beautiful 25 km-long Oldedalen valley named after the small town of Olden. This famous glacier arm is set attractively between roaring waterfalls and the high peaks of the Jostedalsbreen National Park. The glacier descends from 1,910 m above sea level almost right down to the glacier lake Briksdalsvatnet at about 350 m above sea level. It is accessible by hiking a circle of about 5 km altogether or catching a ride with one of the electric “trollcars” up to the glacier lake.
