Canyon del Río Blanco in Sierra de Albarracín in Aragon, Spain

The beauties of nature do not always and necessarily have to be part of protected areas. In the “ordinary” Sierra de Albarracín mountains – south of the Alto Tajo Natural Park – we walked a hiking trail through the Río Blanco river canyon, which in its beauty is comparable to the most beautiful and protected ones. Its start is in the small village of Calomarde, which also has a pleasant and relaxing parking lot with overnight stays for motorhomes.

On the edge of the village of Calomarde is a nice and quiet place for motorhomes. We made entry and payment for 24 hours (6 Eur) through the website of the operator of this place.

GPS: 40.369115, -1.575725

The trail starts about 300 m from the motorhome area.

Several names, including the Canyon de los Arcos, Ruta del Río Blanco, or Pasarelas de Calomarde, know it.

The first part of the trail leads along a path. The next part crosses the Río Blanco river itself several times. Then, the trail climbs over a canyon. Then, it descends to the river, along which well-maintained trails have been built. Then, the trail leads along the river again and returns in a partial circle to the village of Calomarde.

The whole area is located in the Sierra de Albarracín mountains. The name comes from the town of Albarracín, which is a few km from Calomarde and is very popular with visitors. However, we only had Albarracín as a passing place. But we still notice a lot of cars, tourists, and crowded places with people.
