Although southwestern Norway does not offer breathtaking snow-covered mountain ranges, glaciers with waterfalls, or unique fjords. Nevertheless, it can provide unprecedented beauty and experiences. Not only does the scenic route Jæren lead through that part of Norway, with views of the local sea beaches and cliffs, but it is also the area where the Magma Geopark is located – a site dominated by anorthosites rock, which is found in such abundance in Canada, apart from southwestern Norway… and also on the moon. Some local sceneries resemble our idea of a lunar landscape.
Magma Geopark offers many attractive places, and from them, we chose for our half-day trip a formation that we called “an upside down heart” – its official name is Brufjellhålene. We studied the information about the location from the map and went looking for it…forgetting that we didn’t find easy hiking in Norway… And we also went up to the hill under which the formation is located and after which it is named: Brufjell. However, it was a beautiful trip that left us with wonderful memories and photos.
