Varanger Scenic Route in Norway

The Norwegian Scenic Route Varanger, also known as the “Road to the Arctic Ocean,” is almost 160 km long and runs from Varangerbotn to Hamningberg.

It follows the coastline leading along the Arctic Ocean to the Barents Sea. The beauty of the area is indescribable in words. It must be crossed and experienced with your own eyes. Of course, the weather must cooperate at least a little. The weather during our trip was not ideal, but at least acceptable.

It is a drive in the ocean and sky’s fluctuating light–towards the ocean’s expanse and unique rock landscape.

Along the scenic route are interesting historical and geological places and suitable places for bird watching.

The parking lot is behind the village of Hamningberg and next to the Barents Sea.
