Gesäuse National Park, Austria

Großer Buchstein 2.212 m

We visited the park in the autumn. The Gesäuse, selected as a national park in 2002 is known for its breathtakingly beautiful, unapproachable landscape. The park is located in the heart of Austria literally as seen on the map:

Since the alpine beginnings, the Gesäuse has stood for fascinating natural experiences for hikers, mountain bikers, climbers, water sportsmen, and ski-mountaineers.Read more “Gesäuse National Park, Austria”

Lindesnes Lighthouse, Norway

This Lighthouse is built on the southernmost point of the Norwegian mainland. It is a popular destination for travelers in motor homes also because there is a large parking lot in its immediate vicinity with the possibility of overnight stays. The area is also part of the Magma Geopark protected area with many hiking trails along the North Sea coast.Read more “Lindesnes Lighthouse, Norway”

Thayatal National Park, Austria

It is a park on the border with the Czech Republic. On the other side of the river Thaya (called „Dyje“ on the Czech side), there is a Czech National Park Podyji. We discovered both of them.
The National Park Thayatal is the smallest in Austria, and yet one can explore nature’s diversity here in small and big ways.Read more “Thayatal National Park, Austria”

Brufjell Hike, Norway

Although southwestern Norway does not offer breathtaking snow-covered mountain ranges, glaciers with waterfalls, or unique fjords. Nevertheless, it can provide unprecedented beauty and experiences. Not only does the scenic route Jæren lead through that part of Norway, with views of the local sea beaches and cliffs, but it is also the area where the Magma Geopark is located – a site dominated by anorthosites rock, which is found in such abundance in Canada, apart from southwestern Norway… and also on the moon.Read more “Brufjell Hike, Norway”

Schneeberg Nature Park, Austria

Schneeberg

We visited the area several times in spring, summer, and autumn. The whole area is beautiful and offers a variety of activities, and is only a few tens of kilometers apart from the Hohe Wand Nature Park which is worth a visit as well.

The Schneeberg, with its 2,076 m high summit Klosterwappen, is the highest mountain of Lower Austria, and the easternmost and northernmost mountain in the Alps to exceed 2000 m.Read more “Schneeberg Nature Park, Austria”
